Join us at the Museum on Friday, July 12th at 7 p.m. for a special presentation by author/photographer Paul Horsted who uses photography to explore the history of national parks, including Yellowstone.
Visit the Facebook event page for more information: https://www.facebook.com/events/640139063064204/
Paul Horsted has been working as a photographer for more than 40 years. Based in the Black Hills of South Dakota, his work has appeared in publications such as LIFE magazine, Reader's Digest, USA Today, New York Times, Smithsonian, and and dozens of other books and magazines. Paul has specialized in finding sites of historic photographs and then creating a precisely-matched modern image, to show the beauty and history of our country "then and now" in an entertaining and informative way. Partnering with Yellowstone stereoview collector Bob Berry (of Cody, WY), Paul produced the book Yellowstone Yesterday & Today, which features more than 100 views of the park “then and now”. It’s a virtual tour of past and present which follows the traditional loop road through the park. Paul recently published the book Treasures of the National Parks Yesterday & Today which uses this same technique to explore our largest and most popular National Parks through historic images matched with a modern photograph of the same place. Paul presents his work in large-format books but especially enjoys giving live presentations that go behind the scenes of his latest projects. Visit www.paulhorsted.com for more information, to contact Paul or to order his books.

Join Larry Morris, author of The 1959 Yellowstone Earthquake, at the Dining Lodge for a talk on the natural disaster that impacted the area.
"At 11:37 p.m. on August 17, 1959, a magnitude 7.5 earthquake rocked Montana's Yellowstone country. In an instant, an entire mountainside fractured and thundered down onto the sites of unsuspecting campers. The mammoth avalanche generated hurricane-force winds ahead of it that ripped clothing from backs and heaved tidal waves in both directions of the Madison River Canyon. More than two hundred vacationers trapped in the canyon feared the dam upstream would burst. As debris and flooding overwhelmed the river, injured victims frantically searched the darkness for friends and family."
